About Me

Carmen Sorice

Chemical Engineer specializing in Polymer Technologies.
I have been working in the materials and packaging sector since 2005, with a specific focus on Food Contact Materials (FCM).
My professional background spans university research, analytical laboratories and consultancy firms, experiences that have enabled me to develop cross-functional expertise integrating scientific, technical, analytical and regulatory aspects.
While my specialization in polymers forms my technical foundation, over the course of my career I have acquired knowledge and expertise across the various types of materials used in packaging, gaining in-depth insight into their characteristics, technical aspects and applicable regulatory requirements.

Throughout my professional activity, I have worked—and continue to work—with diverse stakeholders along the supply chain: raw material and chemical manufacturers, converters, food and non-food brand owners, distributors and mass retailers (GDO). Engaging with counterparts across different roles in the supply chain has allowed me to understand various needs, challenges and specific requirements.
In my work, regulatory, technical and analytical aspects are closely interconnected. Assessing the conformity of a material or product often requires evaluating the regulatory framework alongside material characteristics, the manufacturing process, intended use and available technical and analytical documentation.

My regulatory practice focuses primarily on European legislation, with careful attention to applicable national regulations as well. I ensure continuous professional development by studying and tracking regulatory, technical and scientific updates in the sector, alongside participating in conferences and professional development seminars.
Since 2019, I have been working as an independent consultant, supporting companies in assessing the safety and conformity of packaging and materials, as well as in interpreting and applying regulatory and technical requirements, including those related to applicable environmental legislation. I also deal with issues related to packaging-product interaction, including the evaluation of available data and analytical results.

My professional activities also include training for companies, institutions and industry organizations through courses, seminars and updates on regulatory and technical topics related to packaging and materials. Furthermore, I provide coaching for the development of new professional skills, supporting corporate teams in consolidating the knowledge and tools needed to operate effectively within the regulatory field.

I have been a member of the Italian Association of Business Operators – Food Contact Experts (AIBO-FCE) since 2009 and a Lead Auditor for food safety management systems according to UNI EN ISO 22000 since 2018.

Professionals working together on a consulting project

The Network

The complexity of certain projects calls for diverse specialist expertise. For this reason, I collaborate with a network of independent professionals, each bringing dedicated experience and specific subject-matter expertise.
I believe in an approach grounded in specialization and complementary roles: each expert contributes within their field of proven experience, avoiding overlap and ensuring the project receives the most appropriate support.

The network allows my expertise to be integrated with experienced professionals in complementary areas, including non-European markets and regulations, Pharma, Medical Devices, as well as other regulatory, scientific and technical sectors.

The involvement of specialists is tailored to the project’s features and specific requirements. Depending on the needs, I can directly coordinate activities, serving as the primary point of contact for the client while integrating contributions from multiple specialists; involve a professional for a specific deep dive or a defined project phase; or, when a request falls outside my area of expertise and does not require my involvement, refer the client directly to the most qualified specialist.

The network thus provides access to complementary skills, carefully selected based on the actual needs of the project.
